We had a crazy storm blow through town today! Such was the case that tia Leticia got stuck out in L.A., the office closed early, and there was a giant tree laying across Lake Shore Drive right where I have to get off to go home! Domi got to hang out with tia Heather because Chris and I went to see a lady about a house, (but more about that later) and she said that he was fine, but really interested in the lightning and thunder. She was also telling us about new little jokes that he's come up with just for her because she's his "GIRLFRIEND"! (Domingo adores tia Hez) I'm glad he wasn't scared of the storm, because I was probably freaked out enough for everyone involved. As we were a few blocks from our building, I said it looked like there were no lights on in the building. A few minutes before I had talked to my mom who said that she had been calling our place with no answer. Then I had a terrifying thought of having to climb up and down 17 stories to get to Domi and then get out of the building because of a tornado warning. But as we got closer I could see the lights were on, and my "on the verge of major panic attack, head between my knees" mode mellowed into a "oh my God, Heather hasn't eaten anything all night, and I'm starving and what can we possibly eat for dinner" train of thought. So, like from code orange to yellow on the status hispanicus meter.

Introducing...
The star half-backs of the Paraguayan national coed soccer team for the 2016 olympics here in Chicago!!
Not really, but aren't these jersey's the best! Leticia got them in Paraguay and then had the names put on them. They are so cute. If you look at these guys sitting from the back like this, they look the same size!
From the front you can tell that the twins' legs are much longer, but still, Domingo is enormous.
This weekend we were in Morris for a rainy weekend. Friday it was actually pretty nice and sunny and we all went for a swim which was nice. It's actually better to be out of the city when it's rainy or cold because it's no fun to be cramped in our little place if we can't get outside. Chris and I went out to a movie this weekend. This is actually pretty momentus as I think it's only the second movie we've been to since Domingo was born. We've made a plan to go so many times, but for one reason or another we haven't made it. We almost didn't make it yesterday, because putting Domingo to sleep took a little longer than usual, and we left for the movie 10 minutes late. Thanks to the 45 minutes of E! quotes, commercials and previews, we didn't miss a thing and sat there reading the inane quotes of the stars for 20 minutes before the previews even started. Where do I sign up for the class action against Loews? I mean, I'm glad we didn't miss the first few minutes of the movie, but 45 minutes of ads, and trivia are enough to make anyone completely batty.
And what was the movie that broke our months long no movie streak? The Simpsons Movie. It actually was pretty good, but there are so many other movies I probably would've rather seen on the big screen. But I'm not complaining, a night out is a night out. Even if it only lasted 90 minutes. The sad thing is, I don't even remember the other movie that we saw so long ago, it was a matinee, but it must not have been very good because I can't for the life of me remember the film!

Say I do
This weekend we had some very serious partying to do! Tia Hez and Tio James got themselves hitched! (to each other) So it's officially official, tio James is now Domi's bona fide tio. And that's what it's all about of course, making it about us. Well the whole weekend was super great. Domingo hung out with Ana and the abuelos when Chris and I had official bridal party duties to attend to, so sleep schedules were not strictly adhered to. That becomes problematic after a few days, and by Saturday evening when I was hoping one late night wouldn't be that big a deal, well, Domi was not super amenable. For the first time in a really long time, he was a crabby little stink. Not anywhere near unbearable, but very out of character. Maybe Domingo just always cries at weddings.
So today was a day of normalizing, we stuck pretty close to home, went out once, but were back in time for naps. Hopefully by tomorrow we'll be back on track with no major damage done.
The ceremony was beautiful and touching, tia Hez was absolutely stunning, she looked like a movie star. Tio James was very sweet and I was so proud to be up there with the rest of the family. Here are some of the pictures we got from the weekend.

11 MONTH UPDATE!!
I can't believe it was your 11 month month-day yesterday! Only one more month until you are a year old, I cannot even start to think about that yet. So instead, I'll focus on all the changes you've made this past month, and there have been loads.
This month you've continued to make strides in your physical development. You are crawling like grease lightning. No longer my little army crawler, you're fully up and on hands and knees and out the door before I can say "donde te vas?". You continue to motor around the floor picking up every speck of dust, but now at a faster pace. Ana has taken to calling you a little vaccum. This month you also started to pull up on everything that is in your path. Luckily there isn't too much in our place that could topple over and crush your little noggin, but I'm sure you'll find something to give me a heart attack. Speaking of, you've discovered stairs and the awesome power of climbing them! Since we live in (basically) three rooms with no stairs anywhere in sight, it didn't really occur to me that figuring out how to crawl up and down the stairs would be a problem until, oh, puberty. But you found some at abuela's house and this past weekend at grandma and farfar's and you were oh so proud to show me that you could crawl up them yourself, on your first try! Never mind the wincing lady behind you spotting your every bobble, sucking in breath at every little jiggle backwards, a few more grey hairs can't hurt her at this point.
With all this new found movement, you've started to work off a little of your buddha belly. You still have a pretty healthy belly flap, but your arms and legs are starting to look really long, and I think it's because some of the chub is disappearing. This terrifies me to no end! I don't want to loose the chub! Not yet!! When you are asleep especially, and you are stretched out to your lankiest, I can see glimmers of the little boy you'll be before I can blink. It takes a lot of will power not to snatch you up that second and cuddle you and roll back and forth while saying my baby chiquitito!! (a game you love as much as me pretending to bite your toes while you nurse- you know I'm not one to disturb someone's meal, but you're little smirk makes it worth the interuption in feeding every single time)
You continue to talk on and on in your incredible little voice, if only we could understand you, you definitely have something to say. You're favorite new "word" is diggem, like the spokes frog for honey smacks. You'll say diggem or liggem or bliggem and I'll say it, and you'll laugh and say it again over and over 400 times if I'd keep it up. You're most vocal time of day is in the morning and you can talk to yourself while you look through all your books for really long streches of time. Those books are still your number one sure fire way to stop you mid-fuss. All I have to say is "vamos a leer un libro (shall we read a book)?" and you stop what you're doing, plop down and wait expectantly for me to start reading you a story. It works just about every time, only when the freak out is too full blown, does a book not calm you down. I must say, I love it.
It was alleged that this month heard you utter your first "real" word- ota. I am still suspicious of this milestone, since you've stopped saying ota when looking at or playing with a ball. You do however know the sign for ball and have used that several times recently, so you definitely know what a pelota is, even if you can't say it. Grandma heard you say lion while pointing at a picture of one in your book, and Ana is convinced that everything you say is your word for something, I guess she's probably right to some extent. You have said "mama" in a very believable way as your father sweeps you away to go to sleep, we've both heard it with our own ears. We aren't sure if it's a clever ploy to torture me, or just the easiest thing to yell with a bicep in your mouth while being rocked to sleep. You haven't ever looked at me and said it, so I'm going with choice b. for now.
But while your "real" words are still ambiguous, your sign language continues to grow. If I were a little more diligent with it, you'd probably know lots more, but I think the signs you have are fun and useful and good enough for now. Your fascination with cars and trucks has now expanded to include airplanes. Whenever we are at the park and a plane goes by, you look up in the sky and point. I often times don't see or hear the plane until much later, but you are signing and smiling once I figure it out and say "avion". That's really the best part of the whole signing thing. I love the look of satisfaction and joy on your face when you see something, tell me about it, and know, really know, that I understand what you are telling me. It's just amazing.
You are still the sweetest, most cheerful and good natured baby around. This past weekend (before the night of the sausage) our friends were all remarking again on what a happy and mild mannered baby you are. I tried to set them straight, but they wouldn't hear a word of my complaints! I have to say I even have to periodically remind myself what it was like those first few months and that you were a real fuss budget until about three or four months when you turned a corner and became the little buddist that you are, because otherwise I'd say "why not have another, or two, or heck why not a half dozen?" Don't worry, that's not going to happen any time soon and if it does happen some day, you'll still be the principe de la casa. Love mama.

At least now I am a size 6
What it's true! For how long I stay that way remains to be seen. I did say I wanted to lose a few pounds before the wedding this weekend, but this was not the way to do it. We think we've discovered the culprit, as no one but Chris, Ed and Sarah and me had sausages on Sunday, and we were the only ones who got sick, we think it was the sausages! THE SAUSAGES!! Here are some pictures from this weekend's better moments.
Hanging out with Emma at the beach.
The calm before the storm.
Sick!
Everyone got a turn this weekend. It started with Domi on Thursday night, he threw up twice, but really didn't make that big a deal out of it, so I thought maybe he just ate something that didn't agree with him. Oh was I wrong. We went to the cottage in Michigan with some friends, and had a nice time despite some inclement weather and biting flies. Then Sunday, after a weekend of changing nasty liquid diapers, Chris had a barf explosion in the car. He couldn't even turn the 6 inches to get out the door. It was pretty phenomenal. I was caught between trying to comfort my exploding husband, and my terrified screaming child. Sorry to say that Chris got the short end of the nurturing stick that time. Domingo needed it more, and was also not covered in sick.
Then we decided not to try and make it to Chicago, and instead went to Grandma's and Farfar's house. Good thing we did too, because later that night I had my own turn. Yuck. All I can say is if this is the same illness that Domingo had on Thursday, he is a much more stoic child than even I had initially thought. Both Chris and I were completely useless, and had we been at home alone, I'm afraid Domi and Olso would have had to fend for themselves. Or I would've called my mom crying on the phone begging her to come and HELP! No pictures of this thank goodness, you would've probably had to hit the objectionable content button!
